 Words from the Chair

Is the end of this lock-out really in sight?

As we all begin to think of mixing with friends and family again we hear of yet another Covid variant. Many of us can see restrictions being in place for quite some time. Yet all is not gloomy, if the government road-map is allowed to run according to schedule as it is at the moment we may yet meet in the hall in July.

We don’t know how many persons will be permitted to meet in the hall after 21st June when restrictions should be eased further. That is something we are hoping to learn shortly.

Thinking ahead it would be helpful to have some idea, in advance of our possible July meeting, of how many of us would be planning to attend.

I am asking for members to give us an indication by email/message of the likelihood of their attending in July.

Whatever we learn we will keep you informed. Meanwhile I do hope you are managing to work at your interests whatever they may be. There should be plenty to discuss when we do all meet again.

Continue to take care and keep turning.

Lathe Steady

Some time ago I showed a lathe steady at the club which was made from plywood and recycled roller blade wheels. I went to a boot fair one Sunday morning and found some good quality roller blades that had seen better days but had good wheels with little wear and tight bearings and got them for £3 as I recall. I was only interest in the wheels and discarded the boots. I little bit of design work and looking at similar homemade steadies on Pinterest…
